galpy.util.coords.vRvz_to_pupv¶
- galpy.util.coords.vRvz_to_pupv(vR, vz, R, z, delta=1.0, oblate=False, uv=False)[source]¶
Calculate momenta in prolate or oblate confocal u and v coordinates from cylindrical velocities vR,vz for a given focal length delta.
- Parameters:
vR (float or numpy.ndarray) – Radial velocity in cylindrical coordinates.
vz (float or numpy.ndarray) – Vertical velocity in cylindrical coordinates.
R (float or numpy.ndarray) – Radius.
z (float or numpy.ndarray) – Height.
delta (float or numpy.ndarray, optional) – Focus. Default is 1.0.
oblate (bool, optional) – If True, compute oblate confocal coordinates instead of prolate. Default is False.
uv (bool, optional) – If True, the given R,z are actually u,v. Default is False.
- Returns:
(pu, pv)
- Return type:
tuple
